The Landscape for FDI Inflows in Kuwait

An evolving framework for Foreign Direct Investment inflows (IFDI) signals positive changes in Kuwait’s business climate. Ownership status in commercial activity has largely favoured Kuwaiti nationals. Today, there exist alternative avenues for investment with 100% ownership of a Kuwait-based entity, prominently, the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA). This research outlines the landscape for IFDI in Kuwait and explores investment opportunities in the Kuwait economy. The work begins by outlining the framework of the different channels for FDI in Kuwait. Then, it depicts investment inflows in the country since 2000. The evidence emphasise the strong link between attracting IFDI and the medium-term investment projects which are strictly in-line with Vision 2035’s socioeconomic goals, primarily incentivising training programs for nationals.
